In the Mongolian Steppe, an arid region with harsh climatic conditions, people had lived as nomads for millennia. However, since the last decades the Mongols have begun to settle down, and in the vicinity of the capital Ulan Bator vast semi-urban settlements, the so-called „Ger Districts“, arose. The publication discusses the issues of an uncontrolled growth of these settlements, and suggests sustainable solutions for future development, to improve the current situation which is beneath human dignity.
